Artangel

Firstly ...I'm a little late I know but I'd like to wish you a fabulous New Year that's filled with happiness and lovely surprises!

I had a lovely surprise last week (did you spot my clever link there!) when I found the latest edition of "Craft Paper Scissors" magazine in a shop in Manchester (it's the first time I've seen it being sold in the UK!) 

By a strange coincidence I'd responded to a question on their Facebook page a little while ago, and the magazine I bought included my comment! It also detailed their latest challenge, which was to make a mini mixed media piece (smaller than 4 cm). I love miniature art and working with detail, so I decided to submit something...

 It's titled "Tread Softly", inspired by the line "Tread softly because you tread on my dreams" (from the W.B. Yeats poem "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven")

 I used tissue paper printed with the poem on a section of a matchbox (I had to cut it to make it under 4cm), then added paint and scraps of a mini playing card and a tea-stained telephone book page, some film negative and a gold key.

 

The heart is made with old papers, ink and paint decoupaged onto a wooden rectangle, with a tiny gold lock tied on with gold thread.
