Uncalled for - IAE Challenge

 We had an intriguing and powerful theme for the IAE challenge this week - "uncalled for". 

I hadn't actually planned to enter anything - I've been exhibiting this week and had a few other things to sort out - but I kept thinking about this drawing. 

I sketched this from a photograph, literally years ago. I can't even remember now where the original  image was from, or what event it illustrated, but I do remember being struck by the body language and expression in the man's eyes and wanting to capture it. So this is my submission - reducing another person to this, for whatever reason, is uncalled for.

    Angie, you are so talented! I was so struck by the expression on his face, it tells such a story. Whatever is happening to him, I think it was truly uncalled for.

    I'm late coming to your blog, and everyone has already said exactly what I thought when I first saw this POWERFUL piece. You should have heard me gasp when I saw the pain, suffering, and humiliation you captured so successfully in your drawing. I'll repeat what you've heard all day: POWERFUL and exactly what this challenged called for.
