I've always been drawn to needlework. I love the rasied textures in embroidery and the rich colours of the threads.
I'm not a natural seamstress; I can just about sew on a button but that's pretty much my limit. I have endless admiration for those who make their own curtains! But I do love the process of sewing - it's so relaxing.
This piece uses fabric from a textile course I did years ago, where we hand-dyed some cotton and added applique shapes.
I've had great fun embroidering over the top at random - I'd forgotten I knew how to do some of these stiches! You can see all this week's challenge submissions here.
What do you mean, you can only sew on a button?!? These embroidery stitches are gorgeous and add the perfect touch to the beautiful textiles. I LOVE the abstract quality of it and the yummy colors :D Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJust yummy!! I could also carry on with this week's theme for ever - just look at all the variety in your one piece!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous piece of art! Love the colours too x
ReplyDeleteI can't even sew a button on, so I would say your piece of hand sewn stitching is gorgeous. The colors are great and your stitching is superb.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I love the random, organized chaos of this piece...you are a genius collager!
ReplyDeleteI like your little Christmas tags too. And beauty in decay...those words sound like a little poem. Those were some beautiful images...
♥♥♥
LOVE this entry- I think it might be my favorite entry of the week! All those gorgeous stitches and colors bring to mind a beautiful crazy quilt- I love, love LOVE this!
ReplyDeleteOh Wow! Clever you!! Very impressed :)
ReplyDeleteThat is just lovely! The textures, colors and the fabric itself are really enhanced by the variety of stitches you used!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours, I would probably have a pin cushion finger trying to sew that.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty - the addition of the stitches makes a perfect enhancement. Very feminine and creative.
ReplyDeleteThe curves and circle make me think of their own world, almost like a solar system full of needles, thread, and color. Super fascinating to look at! Pretty work, thank you for this post :-D
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for your lovely comments :)
ReplyDeleteI still stand by my affirmation that I can barely sew on a button! I do enjoy random stitching but anything that requires a neat edge or a straight line I'd better pass on!
